Buying A Duralast Battery - Your
Essential Guide
|
Welcome to the
Duralast
battery buyers guide.
Duraplast dual purpose marine batteries
have been providing a cost effective and
efficient service to boat users for many
years. This makes the Duralast
battery a good alternative to the
more expensive marine deep cycle
batteries, but do need some
care.

The boat
battery is a vital aspect
of marine safety, and should not be overlooked. Many
water lovers, whether venturing onto the open ocean, or
using inland waterways and lakes, fail to provide a well
maintained and optimized battery for their craft. This
has, on countless occasions, resulted in tragedy.
The Duralast
battery range, although not necessarily
suitable for extreme operating environments, do provide a
better quality of battery for boating use than most
standard automotive batteries.
Duralast batteries are available online
and come in a number of models for marine use
specifically. The Duralast 12 Volts 1000 CA Marine Dual
Purpose Battery comes with a full 3 year warranty and a 12
month free replacement policy. Having used the Duralast
Marine range for the last 8 years, I have never had one
fail. That said, I do utilize a smart battery
charger to ensure that it
is in perfect condition. It is certainly reasonable to
expect one a marine battery of this calibre to be useful
for 5 years, depending on the amount of abuse it is
subjected to.
The
Duralast Marine Dual Purpose battery is specifically designed
for use in boats and RV's, and is produced with the cold
cranking amps, reserve capacity and resistance to vibrations,
to keep you on the water in demanding marine and RV conditions.
Combined with a Duraplast
battery charger,
you have a complete marine battery set up that you can
trust.

The
Duraplast Marine Deep Cycle Battery provides a CCA of 550 and a
reserve capacity of 140. These deep cycle batteries are ideal
for long duration moderate to low amperage draining
applications, but are not the right batteries for general
cranking chores.
Most marine batteries are a hybrid and
fall somewhere between a starting (cranking) battery and a
true deep-cycle one. The hybrid batteries will usually
have plates that are somewhat heavier than the starting
battery and are composed of a lead sponge type material.
Better than nothing, but nowhere near as heavy duty as a
deep cycle model. The batteries are usually rated in CCA
(cold cranking amps) or MCA (marine cranking amps) which
is the same as CA. So it you find a battery with MCA or CA
on it, it could be a true deep cycle battery, but may not
be.
The
Duralast Marine Dual purpose battery is indeed a hybrid, but
does work exceptionally effectively for most small scale
applications. It is a Group 27 battery. Duralast also produce a
marine starting battery with a rating of 875
CA.
All in all,
Duralast manufacture a good range of batteries for general
boating and RV applications. They are not the best batteries,
nor the worst. Available from Autozone stores, treat them with
respect and you will be sure of consistent operation and
a long battery life. For the money, there is not much that can
match the performance of a Duralast
battery.
